PPWI’s commitment to healthcare with a health equity lens, nationally recognized with a transformative gift from Mackenzie Scott

MILWAUKEE, March 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) announced receipt of a 17 million dollars Donation from a renowned national philanthropist Mackenzie Scott Recognizing PPWI’s years of experience in providing and expanding access to health care to those most in need across the state and efforts to ground the work in health equity. This is the greatest individual gift PPWI has ever received, and it comes at a critical time when access to legal abortion is threatened and continued access to PPWI’s health, education and advocacy services is important to health to address injustices. This gift will accelerate PPWI’s ability to provide safe and affordable healthcare to all patients, regardless of what is decided in court or passed by legislative bodies.

The current threat to reproductive freedoms and health is urgent. In addition to efforts to limit access to birth control and other family planning services, Wisconsin is facing the most serious threat to access to abortion in 50 years, which could affect nearly 1.3 million women. These barriers to healthcare are having a disproportionate and devastating impact on the health, well-being and financial stability of Black and Latinx people.
