NOVELETA, Cavite: Health workers from the city’s health department performed subdermal contraceptive implants on mothers and wives who want to plan their families.

The implant placement and removal took place on Friday 4th March 2022 on the second floor of Primark Mall in Barangay Magdiwang.

According to Loida Lagpao Andrade, head of the Noveleta family planning team, 54 women had their contraceptive implants removed and 24 women had a flexible plastic stick the size of a matchstick placed under the skin of the upper arm.

“As part of the Department of Health (DoH) Birth Control Program, the new family planning method called Progestin Subdermal Implant (PSI) is an effective approach to address the global need for more beneficial and convenient spacing in women,” “Dr. mom Hilda Bucu, head of the Noveleta Health Office, said.

“The DoH strongly encourages the use of implants among couples who wish to postpone their pregnancy. The health department advised couples to wait at least 18 months before conceiving again to maintain the best health for both mother and child.”

Contraceptive implants are a long-term birth control option for women. It involves the delivery of a steroid progestin from polymeric capsules or rods placed under the skin.

The woman returns to fertility after the implant is removed.
