Charlottesville-based company wins top innovation award

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville-based medical technology company Contraline took home an award for Best Innovation at the Reproductive Health Innovation Summit.

Contraline is working on a product that aims to offer men a new contraceptive alternative. It would be a one-time, reversible injection that would last for years.

The Reproductive Health Innovation Summit selected Contraline from 65 applicants and 9 finalists for the highest overall award.

“Ultimately, this conference and this award recognizes the fact that a new male contraceptive could be one of the most powerful things for women’s health, not just men’s health,” said Kevin Eisenfrats, CEO of Contraline.

The company hopes to have its product approved by the FDA within the next four years.

“It’s really important because men want this – men need this – men want this. There’s a lot of demand for what we’re developing. You know, there’s a huge number of people who stop taking female contraceptives because of the side effects that come with female contraceptives. So the reality, to be honest, is that women need better options and men need more options,” said Kevin Eisenfrats, CEO of Contraline.
